Invisalign Effectiveness With Dr. Lauren Biernacki

Invisalign is extremely effective at correcting many dental issues. It can handle most cases. On rare occasions, we refer out for traditional braces, but for the most part, Invisalign is suitable for most situations. After treatment with Invisalign, patients must wear retainers at night to ensure their teeth do not shift. Retainers are beneficial for two main reasons. Firstly, they help maintain the alignment of your teeth. Secondly, they function as a night guard. Considering that many people grind their teeth due to various stressors, having a night guard is an additional benefit for those wearing retainers.

Invisalign is just as successful as traditional braces for the cases we handle. Some complex cases may require referral to traditional orthodontics, especially if a patient is not compliant. Compliance is crucial because, unlike traditional braces where the brackets and wires are cemented, Invisalign requires the patient to wear the aligners as directed. Other reasons for referral include severe cases, such as an impacted tooth that needs to be exposed and pulled down into the arch.

Most cases can be treated in-house, but if we determine that you are not a candidate for Invisalign, we will refer you to a specialist who can manage your case. We encourage you to take the first step by coming in for an exam and some x-rays to determine your specific treatment needs.

The Effectiveness of Invisalign in Dental Treatment

Invisalign has revolutionized the field of orthodontics by offering an effective and visually appealing alternative to traditional metal braces. At Brownstown Dental Care, under the guidance of Dr. Lauren Biernacki, we have embraced this innovative technology to help our patients achieve their perfect smiles. Invisalign is not only effective in treating a wide range of dental issues, but it also offers additional benefits that enhance overall dental health.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, plastic aligners to gradually move teeth into their desired position. These aligners are custom-made to fit snugly over the teeth, making them both comfortable and nearly invisible—a preferred choice for adults and teens who are self-conscious about the appearance of traditional braces.

How Effective is Invisalign?

Invisalign is capable of correcting a variety of dental problems, from simple misalignments to more complex cases. It is highly effective for treating gaps, crowding, crossbites, overbites, and underbites. Most cases that traditionally required metal braces can now be effectively treated with Invisalign. However, it’s important to note that while Invisalign can manage most orthodontic issues, certain complex situations might still require traditional braces.

At Brownstown Dental Care, we assess each case individually. In situations where Invisalign might not be the best option due to the complexity of the dental issue or compliance concerns, we refer patients to specialists who can provide the appropriate treatments.

Compliance: A Key Factor in Success

One of the significant advantages of Invisalign is the flexibility it offers. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, and dental hygiene. However, this flexibility requires a high level of patient compliance. The aligners must be worn for at least 22 hours per day to be effective. Non-compliance can lead to extended treatment times or less effective results, which is why patient commitment is crucial.

Long-Term Benefits and Post-Treatment Care

After the active phase of Invisalign treatment, it is essential to wear retainers to prevent teeth from gradually shifting back to their original positions. Retainers need to be worn as prescribed, usually every night. These not only help maintain the alignment but also serve a dual purpose as night guards. Night guards are beneficial for those who clench or grind their teeth, a common issue caused by stress.

Wearing retainers as night guards helps protect the teeth from the wear and tear associated with grinding, which can lead to other dental issues like fractures or enamel erosion. Thus, the post-treatment phase is just as crucial as the treatment itself for maintaining the health and aesthetics of your smile.
