General Dentistry in Woodhaven, MI

Because dentistry that fits your life matters.

Dentistry That Actually Fits Your Life

We believe in dentistry that actually fits your life.

That’s not a slogan — it’s how we schedule appointments, explain treatment options, and make decisions alongside you. At Brownstown Dental Care on Allen Road in Woodhaven, general dentistry isn’t just a category on a menu. It’s the foundation of everything we do, from your very first visit to the care you’ll still be receiving a decade from now.

Whether you’re due for a cleaning, dealing with a tooth that’s been bothering you, or coming back after a long gap in care, our team is ready to meet you where you are — without judgment, without pressure. We welcome patients from Woodhaven, Brownstown Township, Trenton, Flat Rock, and communities throughout the Downriver area. New patients and families are always welcome.

What General Dentistry at Brownstown Includes

General dentistry covers the full range of everyday dental needs — the routine care that keeps your teeth healthy and the restorative work that gets you back to normal when something goes wrong. Our three-doctor team handles virtually everything in-house, so you rarely need to travel elsewhere for care.

Comprehensive Dental Exams

Every new patient starts with a thorough exam. We review your dental and medical history, take diagnostic X-rays, check for cavities, gum disease, and oral cancer, and give you a clear picture of your current oral health. Returning patients see us every six months for a check-in and cleaning. If something changes between visits, don’t wait — we want to hear from you before your next scheduled appointment.

Professional Teeth Cleanings

Even the most diligent brushers miss spots. Professional cleanings remove tartar buildup that a toothbrush alone can’t address. Our hygiene team — which our patients consistently mention by name in their reviews — takes the time to do it right and ensures you’re comfortable throughout. Many patients leave saying it was the most thorough cleaning they’ve ever had.

Digital X-Rays

We use digital X-ray technology that produces high-quality diagnostic images with significantly less radiation than older film-based systems. These images reveal what’s happening between teeth, below the gumline, and inside the bone — problems completely invisible to the naked eye. Digital X-rays are typically taken annually, or more often if your clinical picture calls for it.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

When a cavity is detected, we treat it with composite resin fillings matched to the natural color of your teeth. These restorations are durable, discreet, and free of the silver-amalgam appearance that telegraphs every filling you’ve ever had.

Gum Disease Evaluation and Treatment

Gum disease affects roughly half of American adults — and most don’t realize they have it until it’s progressed. We screen for early warning signs at every exam and intervene early with professional cleaning and hygiene instruction. More advanced cases are treated with scaling and root planing, a deep-cleaning procedure performed below the gumline. Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile, and research increasingly ties gum health to whole-body outcomes including cardiovascular disease and diabetes management.

Tooth Extractions

When a tooth cannot be saved due to severe decay, infection, fracture, or crowding, extraction is sometimes the right decision. Our team handles simple and select surgical extractions in-house, with sedation options available for patients who need additional comfort. If extraction anxiety is a concern, please tell us — we have real solutions.

Oral Cancer Screenings

Every exam includes a visual oral cancer screening at no additional charge. We examine the lips, tongue, cheeks, throat, and floor of the mouth for unusual tissue changes. Early detection dramatically improves outcomes — the screening takes about two minutes and could make a meaningful difference.

Night Guards and Sports Mouthguards

Grinding or clenching during sleep — bruxism — causes significant wear on teeth and jaw joints over time. Custom-fitted night guards protect your teeth and relieve the muscle tension associated with jaw discomfort. For athletes, custom sports mouthguards made from impressions of your actual teeth offer far better protection than anything from the drugstore shelf.

Prevention: The Most Effective Dentistry We Can Offer

The most important thing we do for most patients isn’t fixing problems — it’s helping them avoid problems in the first place. Regular cleanings and exams let us catch issues when they’re small, inexpensive, and minimally invasive to treat. A cavity addressed early becomes a simple filling. Left alone, it becomes a root canal, then a crown, and eventually an extraction that may require an implant to restore.

We take preventive education seriously at every appointment. Our hygienists review your brushing and flossing technique, talk through dietary habits that may be affecting your oral health, and explain exactly what they’re seeing — so you understand the reasoning behind every recommendation. This is what Dr. Hanson means when he says the practice is committed to “honest, high-quality, evidence-based dental care.” You’ll never be recommended a treatment you don’t need, and you’ll always know why we’re suggesting what we’re suggesting.

The Team Behind Your Care

Dr. Ben Hanson opened Brownstown Dental Care over a decade ago with a clear mission: bring high-quality, evidence-based dentistry to the Woodhaven and Brownstown community without the corporate feel. A University of Michigan graduate with advanced residency training in complex restorative dentistry, oral surgery, and IV sedation at both the VA Hospital and U of M Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Dr. Hanson is one of the most credentialed dentists in the Downriver region.

He is perhaps best known as the co-founder and co-owner of ESTEEM® Dental Implants — a proprietary, certified full-arch dental implant system that has restored the smiles and confidence of patients who once thought permanent tooth loss was something they would simply have to live with. But the same precision and care that defines his implant work shows up at every routine cleaning and filling, too.

Dr. Jacob Palmer, DMD brings a deep background in anesthesiology and patient comfort. He earned the Horace Wells Senior Student Award for dental anesthesiology during training and is known for putting even the most anxious patients at ease. Dr. Brian Vu, DMD is focused on building long-term patient relationships and providing comprehensive care for patients of all ages under one roof.

Together, the three-doctor team handles virtually everything in-house on Allen Road — from preventive cleanings and routine fillings to dental implants, full-arch restoration, IV sedation, and sleep apnea treatment. Our patients don’t have to drive across the Downriver area to see specialists for most procedures. That’s by design.
