At Brownstown Dental, we offer veneers to improve the aesthetics of patients’ teeth. Veneers are facings placed on the front side of the teeth to enhance their appearance. Typically, we apply veneers to the front four or eight teeth for the best aesthetic results. Veneers cover only the front side of the tooth, and we don’t drill on the backside at all. The preparation required is minimal, if any, so the procedure is not painful.

For the procedure, we numb the area and prep the front sides of the teeth so the veneers can bond to the enamel surface. The veneers provide optimal aesthetics, and you’ll approve the design before we cement them on. You’ll go home with temporary veneers that already give you a good look, and within two to three weeks, we’ll have the final veneers ready. In the best-case scenario, the whole process takes about three weeks.

We often recommend Invisalign before veneers to correct your bite. If you have some crowding, you may not be biting evenly on your teeth. Straightening your teeth with Invisalign first provides the best long-term results, and then we can place veneers on the front of the teeth for a perfect finish.

Veneers can last a lifetime if you brush, floss, and take care of them like your natural teeth. However, if you get a large cavity on the tooth with a veneer, the veneer might need to be replaced or converted into a full coverage crown. We encourage you to make an appointment at our office so we can evaluate your needs and develop the best treatment plan for you.

Everything You Need to Know About Veneers at Brownstown Dental Care

At Brownstown Dental Care, we understand the importance of a beautiful, confident smile. One of the best ways to enhance the appearance of your teeth is through dental veneers. If you’re considering improving your smile, veneers might be the perfect solution for you. In this blog post, I’ll explain what veneers are, how they work, and why they could be the right choice for your dental needs.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin, custom-made shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth. They’re often used to improve the appearance of teeth that are discolored, chipped, misaligned, or have gaps between them. Veneers are typically made from porcelain or composite resin, both of which are durable and blend naturally with your existing teeth.

At Brownstown Dental Care, we commonly place veneers on the front four to eight teeth to create an even, aesthetic smile. This way, we focus on the teeth that are most visible when you smile, talk, or eat.

The Process: What to Expect

If you’re thinking about getting veneers, the process is straightforward and efficient. Here’s what you can expect when you choose Brownstown Dental Care:

  1. Consultation: The first step is a consultation where we discuss your goals and examine your teeth to determine if veneers are the best option. During this visit, I’ll evaluate the condition of your teeth and ensure you have a healthy foundation for veneers.
  2. Minimal Tooth Preparation: The placement of veneers requires minimal preparation of your natural teeth. Unlike crowns, which cover the entire tooth, veneers only cover the front surface. This means less drilling, making the process less invasive. We focus on the enamel, which is the outer layer of the tooth, to ensure the veneer adheres properly.
  3. Temporary Veneers: Once your teeth are prepped, you’ll receive temporary veneers. This ensures that you leave the office with a great look while your custom veneers are being made. It takes about two to three weeks for your permanent veneers to be fabricated in a dental lab.
  4. Final Placement: When your permanent veneers are ready, you’ll come back to the office to have them placed. Before cementing them on, you’ll have a chance to approve the design to make sure you’re happy with the final result. After any necessary adjustments, the veneers are bonded to your teeth, giving you a new, radiant smile.

Are Veneers Painful?

One of the most common questions we get is whether veneers are painful. The answer is no—veneers are not painful. The procedure is minimally invasive, and we use local anesthesia to numb the area, so you won’t feel any discomfort. Plus, since we only work on the front of the teeth, there’s no need for deep drilling or extensive work. Most patients experience minimal soreness, if any, after the procedure.

Combining Invisalign with Veneers

In some cases, before placing veneers, we recommend starting with Invisalign. Invisalign helps correct any bite or alignment issues that may be contributing to crowding or uneven wear on your teeth. Straightening your teeth with Invisalign first ensures the best long-term results for your veneers.

If your teeth are crooked or not biting together properly, veneers alone might not solve the problem. Straightening your teeth with Invisalign before getting veneers sets up the best foundation for success, ensuring the veneers fit well and last longer.

How Long Do Veneers Last?

When properly cared for, veneers can last for decades. They’re durable and resistant to staining, making them a great long-term investment in your smile. The key to ensuring the longevity of your veneers is to treat them like your natural teeth. Regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups are essential.

It’s important to avoid biting directly into hard objects like ice or pens, as this can damage the veneer. With good oral hygiene and care, veneers can be a lifetime solution for a better smile.

What Can Cause Veneer Failure?

While veneers are durable, there are a few things that can cause them to fail. The most common cause is poor oral hygiene leading to cavities. If a cavity develops on the tooth beneath the veneer, the veneer may need to be replaced, or the tooth might require a full crown instead.

To avoid these issues, it’s important to brush and floss regularly and attend your routine dental cleanings. Veneers themselves don’t get cavities, but the natural tooth underneath can, so maintaining good dental health is key.

Is Veneers the Right Choice for You?

If you’re unhappy with the appearance of your teeth, veneers might be the perfect solution. However, it’s important to consult with a dentist to determine if they’re the best option for your unique dental situation. At Brownstown Dental Care, we take the time to assess your needs and create a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve the smile you’ve always wanted.

We often recommend veneers for patients looking to fix cosmetic issues like discoloration, small chips, or minor misalignments. If you have significant alignment issues, Invisalign might be recommended first to create the best foundation for veneers.
